Virginia commission rep refutes Shine Fights’ accusations, says no bond secured

A representative for the Virginia Professional Boxing and Wrestling
Program today said that there was nothing questionable about its
handling of Shine Fights’ request to hold a single-night eight-man
tournament on Sept. 10 in Fairfax.

Rather, the commission did not OK the event because the promotion didn’t complete a required application to hold an event.

“That is a distinction with a difference,” Mary Broz-Vaughn, director of communications for the VPBWP, today told MMAjunkie.com.

Friday’s Shine Fights competitors face possible suspension (Updated)

Shine Fights will sidestep athletic commission oversight when it
conducts its single-night eight-man tournament, dubbed “Shine Fights:
Lightweight Grand Prix.”

One day after the
promotion moved Friday’s show from Fairfax, Va., to Newkirk, Okla., a
representative from the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission said the
commission refused to sanction the event.

The
event’s new location, Newkirk’s First Council Casino, resides on Native
American reserve land and is not under the jurisdiction of the OSAC.

HDNet airs Shark Fights 13 countdown, "Inside MMA" anniversary show on Friday

Shark Fights 13, a Saturday event that represents the Texas-based promotion’s most ambitious offering to date, will be featured this week in an official “countdown” show.

HDNet airs the half-hour special Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET prior to a special three-year-anniversary edition of “Inside MMA” that includes HDNet CEO Mark Cuban.

Shark Fights 13 takes place Saturday and airs on pay-per-view.

Authentic Brands Group acquires TapouT and Silver Star MMA-apparel companies

MMA apparel companies TapouT and Silver Star Casting Company are now under new ownership.

The North-American based Authentic Brands Group LLC, which dubs itself as an “athletic-lifestyle brand,” today announced the acquisition of the leading MMA companies.

Terms of the deals, which also includes the acquisition of sub-brands such as Tapout MPS and Hitman Fight Gear, were not disclosed.
