Strikeforce Challengers 9 recap: Del Rosario, Kaufman impress with stoppage wins

It’s an old adage, yet it still rings true: speed kills.

Heavyweight Shane Del Rosario used his superior speed and
pinpoint Muay Thai strikes to baffle Hawaiian slugger Lolohea Mahe
en route to a first-round victory at Friday night’s Showtime-broadcast
Strikeforce Challengers 9 event.

The contest capped off a night of entertaining action at the Comcast
Arena of Everett in Washington state.

Gerald Harris steps in for injured Jorge Rivera, faces Alessio Sakara at UFC 118

Jorge Rivera’s loss will be Gerald Harris’ gain.

MMAjunkie.com has learned from sources close to the
promotion that Harris has verbally agreed to replace Rivera and now
faces Alessio Sakara (15-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) at UFC 118. Bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

Featuring a lightweight title rematch between current champion Frankie
Edgar and former title holder B.J. Penn, UFC 118 takes place Aug. 28 at
Boston’s TD Garden.

UFC continues anti-piracy campaign, subpoenas Justin.tv and Ustream.tv

The world’s largest pay-per-view content provider shows no signs of slowing its anti-piracy efforts.

Ultimate Fighting Championship officials today announced they have
subpoenaed Justin.tv and Ustream.tv – two sites with user-provided live
video content – due to their broadcasts of illegally uploaded content,
including the UFC’s pay-per-view events.

Zuffa LLC, the UFC’s parent company, has served both sites subpoenas that demand they reveal the identities of users who uploaded UFC content.

Las Vegas’ MMA Xplosion streams live July 31; Farra, MMAjunkie.com’s Morgan broadcast

The Ultimate Fighting Championship isn’t the only organization hosting
professional fight cards in Las Vegas.

The upstart MMA Xplosion organization returns to the Hard Rock Hotel
& Casino in Las Vegas on July 31 for an eight-bout card featuring
top professional prospects from Wand Fight Team, Striking Unlimited,
TapouT Las Vegas and Xtreme Couture, among others. The night’s card
broadcasts in its entirety on the Takedown Sports Network.

MMAjunkie.com lead staff reporter John Morgan and “MMA:30″ host and
X107.5 FM radio personality Dave Farra have been hired to call the
action.

With career finally on proper track, Strikeforce’s Roxanne Modafferi "riding the wave"

Just two months removed from the biggest fight of her life, Strikeforce
title challenger Roxanne Modafferi is ready for the
biggest fight of her life.

Not bad for someone that spent the better part of a year practically
begging for a place to fight.

“For all of 2009, I was trying really hard to get a fight to get signed
somewhere,” Modafferi recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio. “I just couldn’t get any offers. This is
great now. I’m just riding the wave.”

Despite recent illness, Rafael dos Anjos still fighting Clay Guida at UFC 117

Even opponent Clay Guida had heard the rumors.

In fact, after hearing of Rafael dos Anjos’ illness and fearing their UFC 117 bout might be scratched, Guida recently Tweeted a simple message, “Say it aint so Rafael!! Say it aint so!”

Luckily for both lightweight fighters, dos Anjos’ undisclosed illness was a minor one, and a source close to the fighter told MMAjunkie.com the fight is still good to go for the Aug. 7 card.

With no opponent available, Thiago Tavares pulled from UFC on Versus 2 fight card

Thiago Tavares officially is off next month’s UFC on Versus 2 fight card.

MMAjunkie.com first reported earlier this week that an injury had forced Tavares’ opponent, UFC newcomer Willamy “Chiquerim” Freire, off the card.

Today, a source close to Tavares told MMAjunkie.com a replacement couldn’t be found and that the lightweight will be shifted to a future card.

Undefeated Phil Davis confirms UFC 117 bout with Rodney Wallace

As expected Phil Davis has replaced injured light heavyweight Stanislav Nedkov and now meets Rodney Wallace at next month’s UFC 117 event.

MMAjunkie.com passed along news of the bout on Thursday.

Davis since has confirmed the fight via a Twitter message, one in which he predicts he’ll move to 7-0.
