Despite disappointing UFC 116 loss, Seth Petruzelli will get another UFC fight

Seth Petruzelli will get a chance to redeem himself.

“The Silverback” today told MMAjunkie.com that he is not one-and-done with the UFC after a disappointing, yet electrifying, octagon return at UFC 116 earlier this month.

“[The UFC] was happy with (my) performance and asked when I’d like to fight again,” Petruzelli wrote via text message.

UFC 119 gets four more bouts, Guillard vs. Stephens set for main card

Following today’s official announcement of UFC 119 and three main-card fights, Ultimate Fighting Championship officials have unveiled four additional bouts for the Sept. 25 card.

MMAjunkie.com previously reported the quartet of matchups, including a Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens main-card bout.

Additionally, now official for the preliminary card are Matt Mitrione vs. Joey Beltran, Mark Hunt vs. Sean McCorkle, and T.J. Grant vs. Julio Paulino.

Eddie Sanchez and Neil Grove meet in Bellator 24 heavyweight-tourney opener

Bellator 24’s fight lineup just got a little bit heavier.

Bellator vet Eddie Sanchez and recent acquisition Neil Grove meet at Bellator 24 in the opening round of the promotion’s inaugural eight-man heavyweight tournament, the promotion today announced.

Bellator 24, which kicks off the organization’s 12-week third season, takes place Aug. 12 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and airs live on FOX Sports Net.

UFC 119 in Indianapolis gets Spike TV "UFC Prelims" special, after all

September’s UFC 119 pay-per-view event will get a “UFC Prelims” special, after all.

MMAjunkie.com first reported earlier this month that Spike TV and UFC officials planned to skip the one-hour preliminary-card special for UFC 119.

However, a source close to the event said officials since have changed their minds and tapped middleweights C.B. Dollaway vs. Joe Doerksen and heavyweights Joey Beltran vs. Matt Mitrione for the Spike TV broadcast.

Newcomers Anthony Waldburger and David Mitchell meet at UFC Fight Night 22

Welterweights Anthony “TJ” Waldburger and David Mitchell will get their first taste of octagon competition when they meet at UFC Fight Night 22.

MMAjunkie.com confirmed the booking with sources close to the event who said at least one fighter has signed off on the bout. Fiveouncesofpain.com first reported the matchup.

UFC Fight Night 22 takes place Sept. 15 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, and airs live on Spike TV. Middleweights Alan Belcher and Demian Maia meet in the event’s headliner.

Jake Shields signs with UFC, meets Martin Kampmann at UFC 121

Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields has signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where he’ll return to the welterweight division and fight Martin Kampmann at UFC 121.

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the expected plans with Jack Shields, Jake’s father and manager, who said bout agreements are being finalized today.

Shields had hoped to remain at middleweight for his Oct. 23 debut, but Jack Shields said the fighter agreed to drop back to welterweight at the urging of UFC officials.

"King Mo" Lawal on James Toney’s UFC debut: "Every dog has its day"

Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal says it was a standing guillotine that forced him to tap out to James Toney.

Lawal is one of the more notable fighters to witness the boxing champ’s preparation for his first MMA fight, which comes next month against Randy Couture at UFC 118.

And while Lawal wasn’t sold on Toney at first, the experience changed his tune.

UFC 119 official for Sept. 25 in Indianapolis, Mir vs. Nogueira II headlines

As expected the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its Indiana debut on Sept. 25 when Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis hosts UFC 119.

MMAjunkie.com first reported the event details in June, and UFC executives today made the pay-per-view event official.

As previously reported, Frank Mir rematches fellow ex-heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the night’s main event.
