German UFC lightweight Dennis Siver hoping for MMA acceptance in home country

German mixed martial artist Dennis Siver hopes that mixed martial arts is accepted sooner rather than later in his country.

Silver has carved out a place in the UFC’s lightweight division. But back home, his sport is banned on TV and faces stern public opposition.

“In my opinion, the German media are giving MMA a really hard time,” Siver told MMAjunkie.com.

Michael Bisping vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama nearly finalized for UFC 120 in London

A middleweight bout between Michael Bisping and Yoshihiro Akiyama will be part of October’s UFC 120 event in London.

Fighters Only first reported that at least one fighter has signed for the content, and it’ll serve as the night’s main event.

MMAjunkie.com confirmed the matchup with a source close to the event.

Voting ends Saturday for 2010 ESPY voting, UFC’s St-Pierre and Edgar nominated

Mixed-martial-arts fans have one day left to cast their votes for The 2010 ESPYs, ESPN’s annual awards event.

This year, two MMA fighters earned nominations.

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is a finalist in the “Best Fighter” category, and lightweight title-holder Frankie Edgar earned a “Best Upset” nomination for his April victory over then-champ B.J. Penn.

As War Machine beckons, Tachi Palace 5′s John Alessio focused on big-show return

John Alessio has been around long enough to roll with the punches when it comes to last-minute opponent shifts.

When he spoke to MMAjunkie.com Radio on Thursday, the Canadian was unsure of exactly whom he was going to fight at tonight’s “Tachi Palace Fights 5: Stars & Strikes” event.

But even on shaky ground, Alessio is calm and determined to stay on the winning path. All he wants is a ticket back to the sport’s biggest stage.

The event, which takes place Aug. 14 at the 5,000-seat Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif., airs on pay-per-view for $29.95.

Three titles fights are part of the card, which is headlined by former UFC champ Tim Sylvia vs. former top Strikeforce title-challenger Paul Buentello for the vacant PWP heavyweight belt.

DREAM.15 weigh-in results: Headliners Aoki and Kawajiri on weight

Weigh-ins for Saturday’s DREAM.15 event took place today in Saitama, Japan.

Lightweight champion Shinya Aoki and fellow co-headliner Tatsuya Kawajiri both made weight, though light-heavyweight grand-prix participant Jake O’Brien missed weight on his first attempt.

DREAM.15 takes place Saturday at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama,
Japan. The event airs live in the U.S. on HDNet (3 a.m. ET).
