Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez headlines UFC 121 in California

Sorry, Indianapolis. You missed it by that much.

UFC president Dana White got his wish, and heavyweight champion Brock
Lesnar will return to action sooner rather than later
to take on top contender Cain Velasquez.

But while UFC 119 was the original target date, Lesnar and Velasquez will
instead meet in the main event of UFC 121.

Paul Taylor vs. Sam Stout targeted for UFC 121

Lightweights Paul Taylor and Sam Stout have been penciled in for UFC 121.

Multiple sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com that both fighters have agreed to the contest and
are expected to sign bout agreements shortly.

UFC 121 is targeted for Oct. 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, though
the venue and date have not yet been confirmed by the promotion.

UFC 121 likely for California in October

While the fight card for the UFC’s next October trip to London is
rapidly filling, the promotion is already moving on to future plans.

MMAjunkie.com has learned that the promotion is
targeting Oct. 23 for UFC 121, and the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.,
is the promotion’s likely destination.

Sources close to the venue said that contracts have not yet been signed
for the date but that the promotion appears to be “strongly considering”
a return to the site of three previous UFC events.

Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia in the works for WEC 51 in September

After suffering two-consecutive losses for the first time in his career,
Miguel Torres will start his road back to the title
in September.

The former WEC bantamweight champion will face Millennia MMA product
Charlie Valencia at WEC 51.

MMAjunkie.com confirmed that verbal agreements are
in place for the likely co-main event of the night, though bout
agreements have yet to be distributed.

Pat Audinwood vs. Aaron Riley planned for UFC 119 prelims in September

“Awesomely Awesome” is heading to the UFC.

Team BombSquad fighter Pat “Awesomely Awesome” Audinwood has agreed to meet 13-year-veteran Aaron Riley on the preliminary card of UFC 119.

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the bout, which was
first reported by TheGarv.com, has been verbally agreed to, and bout
agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

German UFC lightweight Dennis Siver hoping for MMA acceptance in home country

German mixed martial artist Dennis Siver hopes that mixed martial arts is accepted sooner rather than later in his country.

Silver has carved out a place in the UFC’s lightweight division. But back home, his sport is banned on TV and faces stern public opposition.

“In my opinion, the German media are giving MMA a really hard time,” Siver told MMAjunkie.com.

Hitomi Akano and Maiju Kujala official as first two entrants in Strikeforce tourney

Strikeforce’s first visit to Arizona will feature a throwback feel as
four women square off in a single-night, single-elimination
tournament with the winner earning the right to a title shot.

While the field has yet to be officially announced, MMAjunkie.com has confirmed with Strikeforce officials that Hitomi
Akano and Maiju Kujala each will
take part in the four-woman bracket.

The remaining two entrants in the Aug. 13 Strikeforce Challengers event
haven’t been announced.

Injury forces Urijah Faber out of WEC 50, Takeya Mizugaki pulled from card

Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber’s bantamweight debut will
have to wait, as an injury has forced “The California Kid” out of WEC
50.

Faber announced his withdrawal from the card on his
Twitter account.

Faber was scheduled to face Takeya Mizugaki at the
event, and MMAjunkie.com has learned from sources
close to the promotion that a replacement opponent will not be sought
for the Japanese product.

Michael Bisping vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama nearly finalized for UFC 120 in London

A middleweight bout between Michael Bisping and Yoshihiro Akiyama will be part of October’s UFC 120 event in London.

Fighters Only first reported that at least one fighter has signed for the content, and it’ll serve as the night’s main event.

MMAjunkie.com confirmed the matchup with a source close to the event.
A previously reported welterweight bout between Dan Hardy and Carlos
Condit takes co-headliner status.
