Couture’s camp says UFC 118 bout with Toney isn’t at catchweight

Randy Couture and James Toney seem to be on different scales when it comes to their fight.

This past Saturday, Toney told MMAjunkie.com that the boxer vs. MMA fighter bout, which is scheduled to co-headline Boston’s UFC 118 event on Aug. 28, will be a catchweight affair. UFC officials later confirmed the plans.

But Couture’s representatives today said that they’ve heard no such thing, and the UFC Hall of Famer is expecting to fight at heavyweight.

Strikeforce champ Alistair Overeem confirms he won’t fight at DREAM.15

As it turns out, Alistair Overeem will not fight Ricco Rodriguez at DREAM.15.

The Strikeforce heavyweight champion issued a statement today and stated he lost a desire to fight at the event when a title opportunity was taken off the table.

“I feel sorry for Rodriguez’s camp if they still think the fight is on, and I apologize to my fans who have bought a ticket to see me compete,” Overeem stated.

Seth Petruzelli "punched myself out" at UFC 116, hopes for another UFC fight

Following his loss to Ricardo Romero at this past weekend’s UFC 116 event, Seth Petruzelli has received hundreds of social-media messages that raved about his performance.

But he spoke to MMAjunkie.com while sitting in a soon-to-depart plane because he read that UFC president Dana White handed out extra bonus checks after the event.

He wanted to know if he was on the list.

cast that the fighter currently is wearing after suffering a broken arm
in a UFC 115 main-event win over Chuck Liddell.

The cast will be autographed by both Franklin and Liddell, and proceeds
benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a charity that supports
breast-cancer research.

"TUF 10" and UFC veteran Mike Wessel arrested for "terroristic threats"

Mixed-martial-arts fighter Mike Wessell sits in a Jonesboro, Ark. jail after a disturbance early Sunday morning.

Wessel, 32, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and first-degree terroristic threatening after he and five other fighters allegedly caused a disturbance at a local pub.

Wessel could face up to six years in prison for the threatening charge and one year each for the public intoxication and disorderly-conduct charges, MMAjunkie.com confirmed with a Jonesboro Police Department spokesperson.

Spencer Fisher signs four-fight deal, meets newcomer Kurt Warburton at UFC 120

Veteran Spencer Fisher has signed a new four-fight deal with the UFC and now meets lightweight newcomer Kurt Warburton at October’s UFC 120 event.

A source close to Fisher today alerted MMAjunkie.com of the new contract.

The source also said that verbal agreements are in place for the UFC 120 contest but that bout agreements have not been distributed.

Despite unique submission win, UFC 116’s Chris Lytle still a boxer at heart

For the second time in his career, UFC welterweight Chris Lytle kept Matt Brown at bay with a second-round submission at UFC 116. And he did it with a hold he’s used in competition before.

But despite the unique submissions he pulled out of his hat this past Saturday – and one he fought out of – Lytle didn’t give himself much of a pat on the back.

“Those (submissions) were just kind of luck I guess,” Lytle said. “I’m not very good on the ground. I’m a boxer, pure and simple.”

UFC newcomers Vinicius Kappke de Quieroz and Rob Broughton meet at UFC 120

A bout between UFC heavyweight newcomers Vinicius Kappke de Quieroz and Rob Broughton will be part of the organization’s UFC 120 event in October.

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed with members of Kappke de Quieroz’s Chute Boxe team that the fight is “official” for the overseas card.

UFC 120 takes place Oct. 16 at The O2 in London and airs via same-day delay on Spike TV.

Dana White confirms UFC 116 winner George Sotiropoulos in lightweight title mix

George Sotiropoulos’ days as the UFC’s under-the-radar lightweight contender may be over.

Following the Australian’s unanimous-decision win over Kurt Pellegrino at this past weekend’s UFC 116 event, Sotiropoulos now has won six straight UFC fights.

The run, which included a February victory over former title challenger Joe Stevenson, has caught the attention of UFC president Dana White.
