UFC 116 fighter bonuses: Six fighters each earn $75,000 awards

LAS VEGAS – Gerald Harris, Brock Lesnar, Stephan Bonnar, Krzysztof Soszynski, Chris Leben and Yoshihiro Akiyama each earned $75,000 fight-night bonuses for their performances
at
Saturday’s UFC 116 event.

Harris earned the “Knockout of the Night” award, Lesnar earned the
“Submission of the Night” bonus, and Bonnar, Soszynski, Leben, Akiyama all earned
“Fight of the Night” honors.

UFC 116 main-card recap: Brock Lesnar survives Shane Carwin, unifies titles

LAS VEGAS – Brock Lesnar was tested, but the big man wasn’t bested.

The world’s new No. 1 ranked heavyweight fighter and now-undisputed champion survived a dangerous first-round attack from interim title-holder Shane Carwin but reigned supreme for a second-round submission victory.

The title-unification bout headlined Saturday’s UFC 116 pay-per-view event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC 116 preliminary-card recap: Brendan Schaub, Gerald Harris dazzle in KO wins

LAS VEGAS – As the big guys continue to make the UFC heavyweight division the organization’s marquee weight class, “The Ultimate Fighter 10″ runner-up Brendan Schaub is doing his best to get noticed.

He did just that on Saturday with a quick and decisive first-round knockout of Chris Tuchscherer at Saturday’s UFC 116 event.

The preliminary-card bout was the featured attraction in a Spike TV “UFC Prelims” broadcast that preceded the night’s pay-per-view main card.

LAS VEGAS – Professional boxer James Toney and UFC
Hall of Famer Randy Couture are both famous for
winning titles in multiple weight classes, but it’s still uncertain at
exactly which weight the two will meet.

However, one thing is certain.

Despite Toney’s preference for a
heavyweight matchup with “The Natural,” when the pair faces off in the
co-main event of August’s UFC 118 event, it will be a catchweight
affair.

Vazquez vs. Semerzier, Lamas vs. Jansen official for WEC 50 prelims

A pair of previously reports bouts has been added to next month’s WEC 50 card.

They include featherweights Javier Vazquez vs. Mackens Semerzier and lightweights Ricardo Lamas vs. Dave Jansen.

Both matchups are part of the un-aired preliminary card of the Aug. 18 event, which takes place at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

UFC 116’s Daniels Roberts credits all-star training partners for quick improvement

UFC 116 welterweight Daniel Roberts’ journey to the UFC began with a leap of
faith.

An accomplished grappler with 12 years of training in wrestling and
jiu-jitsu, the Oklahoman followed his high school classmate Gerald
Harris’ lead and made the transition to MMA.

But it was a move to San
Francisco to train with Gilbert Melendez’s Skrap Pack that Roberts credits for truly elevating his game.
